Spectrum Disorder Autism Caregivers Talented Society of Kenya MASTER OF ARTS In Counseling Psychology The study explored the caregivers’ burden among parents of children with autism spectrum disorder, focusing on Differently Talented Society of Kenya. It attempted to explore caregivers’ burden that parents encounter as a result of raising children with ASD, and identify some coping strategies and psychosocial support that are accessible to parents. The study used a mixed-methods approach, combining components of both quantitative and qualitative research. The target population was DTSK members, who are parents of children with ASD, who are between the ages of 2 and 11years, and are domiciled in Nairobi County. The study considered a sample size of 54 respondents. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire and used of focused group. Thereafter, the data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 27.0. The data also indicated that 77.6% of the respondents were suffering from moderate to severe anxiety, which put them in the worst situation possible. The results for those who had depression showed that the mean score for depression was 3.0408 and the standard deviation SD=1.38382. The substantial positive relationship between parental age and family income may reflect the influence of caregiving concerns that become more serious as parents aged. This established that the autistic child's inability to receive health and medical care raised the strain on parents, which in turn worsened the caregiver burden. Prayer was cited as the most effective coping strategy by participants, accounting for 25% of all reported coping strategies. For the care of their autistic child, 53% of the respondents depended solely on themselves. This study also found that, at a rate of 26.5%, respondents depended mostly on their husbands for psychosocial support. 14.3% participants reported that among their relatives, grandparents were the most supportive in caring for the child with ASD.
