Organizational External Communications Job Search Postgraduate Students Daystar University Nairobi Campus Job Seekers' Perceptions MASTER OF ARTS in Communication The purpose of this research was to investigate the perceptions of job seekers in Kenya towards organizational external communication during the job search process. External communication that is clear, effective, and well thought out is critical during a hiring cycle as it can persuade the brightest talent to join an organization, as well as manage the expectations and perceptions of those who were not successful during a particular hiring cycle. However, this is not always provided and when it is, it is lackluster and wanting. The scope of this study was to understand what jobseekers experienced with organizational external communication, their expectations of this function, and to gather recommendations for areas of improvements that would benefit organizations. The study adopted a phenomenological research design where the researcher described the lived experiences of the participants about organizational external communication during job search. The data analysis method was qualitative, and the target population was 1,500 postgraduate students. The data collection tool was interviews and these were conducted on 13 postgraduate students at Daystar University over a period of two weeks. The study found that job seekers had high expectations of organizational external communication during job search, and they also felt that this greatly influenced their perception of an organization and determined whether a job seeker would engage with that organization in future. The conclusion of this study was that job seekers would like organizational external communication targeted at them to be better executed and consistent as this influences their perception of that organization either negatively or positively. The study recommended that organizations invest in their external communication strategies especially for job seekers. The study recommended further research to be done on the factors that make for a great candidate experience.
