Doing business online amid various challenges has been seen to bring great benefits to businesses, consumers and even society in general. Online companies in developed economies have successfully contributed significantly to the economy and to job creation. While the e-commerce industry is still in its infancy in Kenya, consumers are opening up to the idea of online shopping and a few full-fledged online companies are already operating in the country. Currently, the information technology industry is overflowing with many companies developing products that are highly reproducible. The current study sought to fill the literature, conceptual and contextual gap in e-commerce by examining the effect of strategic capabilities on the performance of selected e-commerce firms in Nairobi County, Kenya. A census was done across the target population of the top 20 e-commerce companies (by revenue) in Nairobi County, Kenya. Descriptive research design was adopted. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24. The analysis was presented in tables, graphs and charts. The findings showed a strong statistically significant positive relationship between strategic capabilities and performance. This study concluded that that ecommerce firms in Nairobi County have continually used strategic capabilities in their daily operations to enhance their performance. Some strategic capabilities are more highly adopted and practiced than others.
