Veirgil
B'fhile Rómhánach é Publius Vergilius Maro (15 Deireadh Fómhair, 70 RC – 21 Meán Fómhair, 19 RC), nó Veirgil i nGaeilge, le linn na tréimhse Águstaigh. Scríobh sé trí cinn de na dánta is cáiliúla i litríocht na Laidine: na hEaclóga, na Seoirsicí agus an Aeinéid. Dhá leabhar déag de dhánta atá san Aeinéid agus b'eipic náisiúnta Impireachta na Róimhe í. Uaireanta luaitear roinnt miondhánta, a bhailíodh san ré Águstach leis.Bíonn Veirgil rangaithe go traidisiúnta mar cheann de na filí is mó sa Róimh. Glacadh lena hAeinéid mar eipic náisiúnta na Sean-Róimhe ón chéad uair a foilsíodh é. Samhaltaithe i ndiaidh an Iliaid agus na hOdaisé de chuid Hóiméir, leanann an Aeinéid dídeanaí na Traí, Aeinéas, agus é ag streachailt lena thodhchaí a bhaint amach agus an Iodáil a bhaint amach, áit a bhfuarthas a shliocht Romalas agus Réamas i gcathair na Róimhe. Tá tionchar leathan agus domhain ag saothar Virgil ar litríocht an Iarthair, go háirithe Coméide Dhiaga ó Dhainté Ailigéirí, ina bhfuil Veirgil le feiceáil mar threoirí Dhainté trí trí ifreann agus phurgadóir.
